Fermenting chick food -- how soon?

I have been fermenting my food for my hens now for at least a year and love it. Plus they love it. But I was wondering how soon I can put my baby chicks on their food being fermented. They are only 5 days old and I just got them today. They are use to eating crumbles at the nursery.

How I would do it is to keep the crumbles going, for the time being, and also offer some chick starter fermented feed, until they take to it. They are young and may take a week or so to acquire a liking for the FF, but they will. Of course you can ferment the crumbles you are feeding dry as you go. Try them with some wetted feed, using warm water as an interim step in your conversion process. I believe you are on the right track and if you 'listen' to the birds, you will know what will work best for them.

Best to you and your birds,

RJ
