Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

A couple of days ago, four or five crows came squawking overhead.  When I looked up, they were surrounding a hawk, and chasing it off.  Hubby says they will do that......I guess crows aren't a bad thing after all.

Oh yeah, crows are a good thing! One day I heard what sounded like an animal being hurt/attacked. The noise went on for several minutes. I thought some coyotes had found a baby deer. Finally I saw a hawk flying and two crows right on his butt chasing him. Go crows!

Well, Christmas morning was good. Christmas afternoon The Hawk came back. I am now applying for a permit to legally remove the hawk that killed two of my egg layers today. In particular, the second of my original golden girls is now in my fridge. RIP nugget. Next time that hawk comes back my dog is coming out with me. After all, it is her job to see off predators... And if a wild animal happens into my back yard while my dog is there or vice versa, well... Both dog and bird move too fast for me to catch em anyhow.
CM, I am so sorry to hear about the hawk killing two of your girls......I guess my thoughts are if the dog gets it......oh well.

Hey there Rose.

There was a hawk visiting my place today. He got my attention because some of these guys had him squawking. There were about six of these turkey vultures hanging around. I have never seen them perch in the yard before. I think these two and another one are youngsters. It won't let me upload the video. Cool birds, LOVE to watch them float around!

Well I'm glad they didn't get any of your birds! I had two around here today so I just told hubby not to let the girls out. :)

A very important thing to remember, if your Doctor didn't mention it, is that Vitamin D takes anywhere from 12 to 48 hours, usually on the upper end of that time frame, to be absorbed by the body and be usable. If you shower daily, you are drastically inhibiting that absorption, which is where a large amount of Vitamin D comes from, second only to actual sun exposure. If you have fair skin, it is generated and absorbed significantly faster. Darker complexions take longer for both processes. An increasing number of homepathic Doctors appear to be recommending a shower once or twice a week. For the other days, a sponge bath will give the best result, cleaning the face, underarms, genitals and feet. Also remember that the sun should be above 50* to the horizon and must be direct sunlight. The UV rays are blocked by even standard windows, so you're body is only getting the sun's dangerous rays.

THANX!

Speaking of Vitamin D, I ran across this page with links to several articles on it from the "natural" point of view. I am a big believer in Vitamin D to help keep your immune system in good order.

...I'm not out in public as often or around a whole lot of people like most people are and I may come down with swine flu or pneumonia before the day is over BUT I have been taking Vitamin D3 for several years (5,000 IU/day now) and I have not had a cold, flu, etc in several years. Seems like I might have had one mild cold in about the five years. I started to come down with a sinus infection a couple weeks ago but it went away pretty quick. I give Vitamin D a lot of the credit for keeping me healthy. If I could just find something for arthritis! lol
LOL I hear ya TW. I can't take vit. D though because it gives me cold sores. I KNOW it's weird but it does. In fact I did a little research on that and found others that it does the same to. Actually it was a forum and I have the link on my CD where I saved all my favorites. Was trying to find it the other day.

Blessed are the women who have husbands that cook, particularly this time of year.

We'll be travelling Friday, 2 1/2 hours one way, to donate a breeding trio to a lovely lady who lost her whole flock of over 100 chickens last month. I felt her pain & just wanted to help, in whatever way I could.

Nice to hear of thoughtful gifts for everyone.

Hope everybody gets over that nasty bug soon, Rose.

That sure wouldn't be any fun! Other than drinknig plenty of milk and eating plenty of milk products like kefir, buttermilk, cheese, cottage cheese, etc I'm not sure what to do other than having your skin exposed to the sun a lot. I know, nude sunbathing Rose! haha I'd have to Google and see what else has Vitamin D in it. I'm sure something does.
