Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

I ordered my kefir from Amazon called milk kefir grains   $5.88 free ship  sold by cultures for health  by Atlantis Group    Packed good.  Added contents to 1/2 reg milk covered on counter for 24-36 hrs.   Next day 1 c milk and so on up to 4 cups a day.  Make sure they are growing before you increase past 1 c.  I still don't do the whole 4 c because I don't need it.   But man the chicks will adore the extra grains you have on hand.    I tried giving some kefir in  a bowl to our little diva house dog.  She thought I was trying to kill her.   But the cat went ballistic.  Couldn't get enough.   :thumbsup

Edited:  poor spelling

I had a cat that had a bad milk habit. lol She would go to the frige and I swear it sounded just like she was saying "miiiilk". We would give her a little bowl of milk and she was a happy camper. LOL The vet said you couldn't feed them milk because it would give them the runs. Wrong! That cat had her milk about every single day and never got the runs. I miss that crazy cat. :)

Milk gives cats the runs??? All my childhood memories of kitties have been shattered....somewhere there were a lot of little runny poops, no doubt in the garden. Just think of those poor cats living at the dairy barn! I bet they were regular fecal factories!

Unfortunately, your tinnitus may be here for the duration.  Vancomycin can have significant impact on the workings of the inner ear.  Long-term therapy increases these odds.  If the levels creep up and remain elevated (> 40mcg/ml) for extended periods of time it becomes a function of the total area under the curve above the therapeutic threshold.  It is an additive and permanent affect.  Do you find you have any hearing loss along with the tinnitus symptoms?

I had no doubt it was here to stay. The volume of it varies of course but I'm used to it now. I have some hearing loss in my left ear. But not enough to show up on tests. Yet when my right ear is covered my hearing is poor. Maybe the ringing is just louder in that ear lol. I do notice high pitched sounds that others can't hear I can. Kind of weird. But people speaking low I can't hear.
Had a friend of the family many years ago who suffered severe 2nd and 3rd degree burns.  He was on an aminoglycoside antibiotic because of infection......I can't remember if it was gentamicin or vancomycin......gent, I think.  Anyways, he ended up almost completely deaf......but he was alive.......it was that kind of situation.  Mean drugs.....but life and death in many instances.

@armorfirelady
   Did you have MRSA or did your infectious disease specialist tell you?

He may of told me but I don't remember. I def don't think it was MRSA I would of remembered that. But whatever it was I got a private room after surgery and yelled at when I started walking the halls with my walker. I don't do well being still or confined. Longest 2 days in the hospital ever lol

And so ends the story of Toby. I prayed about this thing and had nothing but peace about this decision, no bad feelings in my gut or anything that would usually tell me that I'm making a mistake. God has given me a great peace about it and so I know that He was with me on this one. I saved some hackle and saddle feathers for my keepsake box.

Rest in Broth, Tobias!

Thank you, WW!

He was pretty, wasn't he? I was surprised at how small his breast filets really were and this speaks of the difference between the varieties of Plymouth Rock birds....the WR females had bigger breasts and thighs than this Partridge Rock male. That's how I gauge a true dual purpose breed..not how big the roosters get but how meaty and big the hens get while still having excellent laying. My WRs had excellent lay. In the end they also made for a huge meal and I cull more hens in my flocks than I ever do roosters, so it's important to me to have a hen that finishes well.
