Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

I've a Blue Cochin hen sitting on 4 eggs (I broke the 5th when candle) due to hatch tomorrow. They will get FF from the 'get go". This is the 4th time in 11 months this hen has been broody.

They're eating it!!!

Talking about the week old chicks in case I've lost you

Plan on putting the new chicks hatching this weekend in the same brooder. I think the older ones will show them where the good stuff is to eat

Knew they would.....

I'm so happy that my (almost) 1 and 2 year old chickens are loving the FF. I kept reading in this thread that its harder to get the older hens to get on it, but they really chow down! Even my picky Brahmas! I added some scratch grains to my thick mixture of layer pellets & oatmeal yesterday with a lot of water and when I stirred it this morning, it was frothy with bubbles. I'm going to have to rig something out in the barn for this so I can drain without worrying about spilling in the house.

I am trying a batch of oats fermenting right now. I actually have three four-five week old chicks that are looking puny right now. I gave them some cooked oats mixed with raw vinegar milk (like clabbered milk) and put the raw acv in their drinking water. They can't get enough of the clabbered milk/oats combo, I have refilled their dish three times since 11am!

This sounds great and I hope you will pardon my ignorance, but what is clabbered milk?

I have been feeding FF for a few weeks now and both my flock and I like it. What I don't like is the feeders that I am feeding in. What worked before no longer works. What type of feeders are you using that will keep the birds out of the food, by that I mean, no jumping in and scratching around. I am interested in something that can be made or is repurposed, and that will stay up off the ground whether inside or outside. Pics? I know someone clever has come up with a no tip, no scratch, easy cleaning FF feeder.
