Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

oh man I'd be worried to. Sure hope the thing left and wont be back!!! I've not had any problems with them though but just getting started. We used to have loads of skunks around here but thank goodness they've been killed or left to find food else where. THANK GOODNESS! I am just starting as of this spring with my chickens.

Yeah I am just starting out too. I knew skunks eat eggs but I read that they kill chickens too! I sure wish I could train my one dog not to kill chickens, but she wants to kill everything! She sure would keep EVERYTHING away. Yesterday she was spazzing out over a big turtle that was in the yard. Today she spazzez out over a squirrel in a tree. She has got such a high prey drive I don't believe I could get her to stop wanting to attack chickens. Nothing gets by her! If anything moves she's on alert!

I love it when skunks come around! One, because they dig up and eat yellow jackets...and I hate a nasty ol' bee. Yeah..I know, Bee hates wasps and hornets.

And, two, because I LOVE the smell of skunk. Yes, I am aware that it makes me pretty darn weird but it's such a clean, musky smell that brings back wonderful memories of fall and spring, my two fave seasons. BTW, I'm not the only one who loves that smell...there are many but only some people actually admit it. I didn't know there were others who liked that smell until I read Dear Abby one day and found out that it's not uncommon at all.

lol you so funny. I like the cologne smell of musk but not skunk smell. One night hubby and the daughter decided they were going hunting here around the house (woods all around us). They come INTO our bedroom (now it's CARPET) and the funk hit me in the face! PHEWWWW it was BAD! The dog had gotten too close and the skunk sprayed him and the daughter and hubby was right behind the dog. Man kind they got a bath BUT that smell all night long was horrible.

I am totally new to this idea. So you take your feed, put it in the top bucket and add water. Let it sit for 8 to 15 hours and then how do you feed it? And how much do you feed? We have just been feeding the dry grains by spreading them on the ground. We have started out hens on a laying formula (can't remember the name of it). This is also fed to the roos and guineas as they all eat at the same time. Is this wrong? I sure don't want to do anything to damage our chickens. We have 3 Wyandotts (roos), 6 RSL hens, 2 Silkies (sex not known for sure as only 2 plus months old) and 4 guineas aprox 3 months old. Can use all the help on feeding I can get. Thanks in advance for any and all advice.

LOL...I thought I was weird (ok I know I am but that's beside the point) that I enjoy it. But only when it's a passing scent, honestly it smells kinda like brewing coffee in those instances. When I have to clean up one the dog's killed or bathe a dog that's gotten the full brunt of the spray I don't like it.

We were just talking bout ground dwelling stingers on another thread. I hate those dang things...

You're right! I never thought about it, but it does smell a little like coffee brewing and I love that smell too...but I don't like coffee. I also like pipe smoke, the smell of gasoline, spray paint, rubbing alcohol, fingernail polish, and magic markers. When I was pregnant for my last two boys my mouth would actually water when I pumped gas...I actually CRAVED the smell of fumes. Did some reading up on it and found I was not alone and many crave smells instead of certain foods.
