I haven't, but some the rabbit people in Gavin's 4-H club (rabbit and poultry) use cloves in the waterers to help with worms and (I think they said) fleas. I was thinking of giving this a try in the waterers since our entire flock free ranges, but because they free range they prefer to drink from the pond and ducks' pools over the nice clean water in the waterers every time, I don't get itI've been reading up on the Internet a bit about mite and lice prevention and treatment. From what I've been reading it seems as though adding garlic powder and/or garlic cloves and/or garlic juice to feed or water for your chickens will help prevent and rid chickens from mites and lice in addition the garlic also keeps their immune system strong. Anyone doing this or done this before ? If so, how are you doing it and what were the results ?
My hens get garlic a couple times a month. All are healthy and pest free. I no longer use straw since several people told me it harbors mites. Only pine shavings and whatever free stuff I get from my yard.
They also get various fresh herbs. Basil, parsley, etc.,.... To support their immune system. I also use eucalyptus oil mixed with water to deter pests plus it smells nice![]()
I've had my girls for a year now and no problems
I use whole seed garlic in my FF and I just throw several seed cloves into the FF every day. Thus far I have never seen worms. :3 I'm going to be adding cloves next week.I've been reading up on the Internet a bit about mite and lice prevention and treatment. Hi armorfirelady... How do you feed the garlic, do you mix it in their feed or water ? And how much do you mix ? Also, with the eucalyptus oil and water, you just mix it together ? How much ? And then what do you do with it ?
I use the chopped kind in water toucan buy in mayo size jars. I don't measure it just put a bunch in the FF bucket. I want to grow garlic this year and lots of it so I can hopefully can it and use the ought the year. I have also crushed cloves and added it to their feed. I have never put it on their water
