Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

Yesterday, we found our first eggs. Today, we have three. We only have 3 RIR's, and they are 24 weeks old. I can say that the FF did delay the onset of POL, but now that they are laying, so far, great eggs, good shells, great size. We had read that the first eggs may be small, weak shells, with sporatic laying. That was our expectation, so we were happily surprised to see a full box this morning!

NOW, my dh is ready for us to get the dog on ff, so I just started/labeled a bucket for the dog's ff... and here we go!!

Well, I just spent days reading and researching this thread and now I've taken the plunge. I'm soaking 1:1 layer mash and scratch in ACV with mother and water. I'm hoping to get a good ferment going in just a few days. I have to buy a rubber doggie bowl to feed it in--I'll find one tomorrow. So my chickens will be eating fodder and FF. I'm very grateful for all I've learned on this site! So much experience--you have saved my chickens from suffering many of my learning mistakes.

We're all very pleased at the difference ff is making in our flocks lives. Keep us updated on what you see in a couple of weeks. and remember to go easy on the ACV. if you over do it can begin to smell like a liquor store.

Anyone having problems with the holes in their ff buckets getting clogged? Mine isn't draining so good, I am wondering if it's the crumble and if it would make a difference if I used Pellets. Any advise?
