Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

Just wanted to post my feedback here on how impressed I am on the FF!! Everyone loves it, I see weight gain on everyone, they simply cannot get enough of it, everyone looks a lot healthier, and egg production is out of this world!! My Seramas and Cochins started laying daily, after being on strike since early fall. They started laying during the coldest weather we had..I think it's because of the FF. Anyway, I am NEVER going back to dry feed. I couldn't be more pleased!

ETA: I haven't bought feed in several weeks (usually we bought it every 1-2 weeks), and I've noticed that the birds are not eating as much. Sometimes I worry they are not getting enough, but I haven't seen any weight loss on anyone, and they are still laying eggs like crazy!

Hi there! I've read anout 300 posts, haven't found the answer to my question so I thought I would ask, I apologize if it's been asked before! Can someone post a picture of what their feeders look like for their grown chickens? The feeding trough from TSC that I got for the 25 meat birds I'm raising has worked well enough in the past, but at 3 weeks I'm filling that and a Tupperware like container 3x s day, and I'm trying to figure out how to use a rain gutter that they won't stand on (or in) and make a mess out of before their time is up :). Thanks!!

Here is a picture of my ducks eating their FF. I use this green plastic bowl, and then I have a bunch of different sizes of the black rubber bowls that you can get from TSC. They are working great so far.

This is what I use to feed my flocks. Is this what you are using?

. Thanks!!

This is what I use for my layers and my meat birds. My hubby made them out of PVC pipe and they work perfectly.

ETA: He has actually made a bar going down the middle that seems to keep the meat birds from getting into it. The hens...they think it's a roost bar after they have had their fill!! :)

I use rubber feed pans also. the birds walk in them sometimes(especially right after i fill it) but my layers get to free range too so they eat throughout the day. I imagine meat birds would be much messier!

After feeding this morning there was a lot of slop left in the bucket so i let our old cow taste it then put the bucket upside down to drain while i fed the cows. when i went back by later the spot on the ground was licked almost down to dirt! apparently she loves it too, lol.

How often do you all suggest to clean the dishes that you feed ff in? Do you do it more often in summer than winter? Just curious as to how long you can let the dish go before giving it a thorough cleaning...

Well since I am using cool whip containers for the winter they get cleaned every day since I have to bring the container in the house to refill it the next day. But during the summer when I use a gutter feeder, I never clean it other than to scrape off the dried on pieces. Honestly there is nothing left in the gutter since they lick it clean lol

I am sorry what is unpasteurized ACV

I might have missed the term but with 470 pages it took me hours and that was just skinning thru this thread. Great info as i am going to give it a try

Ok I know the ansers are in this thread somewhere but can it go all in one post?

My question is what is in FF? and the complete directions? I will scan thru this to see what I come up with
