Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

you and me both Bee. I was JUST telling my sister that very thing! With that in mind I'm going to share a chicken recipe that I JUST shared with her. lol This is sooooo fast and easy to make and is soooooooo mega good to!! I didn't have fresh basil so I just used the dry. My word it's good! Also I really didn't measure stuff because I made more than a 2 serving because I LOVE left overs so I don't have to cook again soon.

Basil, Tomato, Chicken

4 chicken thighs (you could also use breasts)
- 2 tbsp butter, ghee or expeller pressed coconut oil
- 1 cup of cherry tomatoes, sliced in half
- 4 large basil leaves, sliced
- 2 garlic cloves, minced

- Heat whichever fat you choose over medium high heat.
- Add the chicken breasts to the pan.
- Add the tomatoes to the pan.
- Cook the chicken for about 3 minutes on both sides, depending on the thickness.
- During the last minute of cooking, add the basil and garlic. Give it a toss.

Sounds good!! mmmmm!

Oh em gee, I'm all kinds of dumb right now. Huge posts here on how much feed I'm wasting... Well, I do spill a bit, but I just got home a pulled out the bag in question. Not a 40lb bag. 25lbs! Much more reasonable. I'm only feeding these chicks 2-4 cups of feed a day! I'm not spilling THAT much! Step away from the internet, I'm looking the fool.

Isn't that what the internet is for?

That's what I use it for! If I'm not looking like a complete and total fool by the end of the day on here, the time is not spent constructively.

My memory is so fuzzy that I often find myself looking like a complete doddering old fool and I've grown used to it now..if it were any other way I'd think I had gotten a virus on my registry.

LOL @ you Bee. I guess we all do look like that at some point but better to laugh about it than to cry.

I'm going to meander like Walt a bit...was sitting up at the coop the other day and took a pic of the view from the coop...these birds have a pretty cool life for a chicken, I'm thinking.... the sunlight through the trees, all those leaves to dig through, brush piles to dig under and through, green grass. What a life for a chicken! All that's lacking is a lovely little waterfall and a babbling brook.

Same here my entire set up is a bucket (well a 30 gal trash barrel) a scoop (shovel) and a trough shaped feeder. I fill straight from the water hose, and bags of grain.
great minds think alike K . yep thats how i do mine. simple dimple.the hardest part lifting the 50 lb bags of feed

Oh, lately, spillage with my layer FF--new bag of feed and this stuff expands way more than the last stuff (same brand, but this bag is much more powdery)!  So twice now the FF has kind of exploded out of the top, but I've got the ratio figured out.  Still, messes everywhere.

You mean fermented volcanos like this? I've probably done this... maybe 10 times and will more than likely do it that many more at least. If that is all that goes wrong in my day I figure I have done well. LOL

Bee I can smell the crispness of the leaves! That is so beautiful! There is nothing better than watching the sun come up in the morning filtering its rays through the trees!

Lisa :)
