Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

I thought the top load broken freezer was a cool idea to actually ferment in for those not liking the depth of the trash can but needing a large capacity. I know the thought of those posts was to holed the buckets of ff, but using it as the fermenter itself intrigued me.

@Hellbender... there is a lady in one of the Asian countries that is doing a lot of different things with fermenting. I want to read more about her stuff myself. She is fermenting different things and some just as supplements. The website is Sunshine ...something. I'll see if I can't find it sometime today. It is very interesting and you might be interested in that. I am!

That sounds like a great idea, even for dry feed storage.

As for dry food storage, I know several horse people who keep grain in old freezers.

As for Kassaundra's idea, I think that would work on a large scale too, just have a couple or three going at once but I could not change my flock to anything because now, with the cooler weather coming on, I don't want to do anything to cause a drop in production. I'm just feeding FF to quite young pullets and cockerels....So far a very successful experiment.

This lady is also fermenting herbs for her birds. I wish she would write a book. She has some youtube videos but sometimes there are language problems. But very interesting stuff!

No you definitely wouldn't want to cause a drop in production. I don't know that it would but like you I wouldn't want to chance it in the dead of winter. Maybe the new pullets that are coming on, maybe you can find a way to keep them on ff. I tell you, it does make a difference in the eggs. I was just saying a day or so ago how runny yolks in store bought eggs sort of give me indigestion, but not with eggs from chickens fed fermented feed.

I keep between 425 and 450 birds...+or-...in the laying flock.

I have three flocks, essentially. Turkens, Australorps and judicious crosses there of.

All I can say is WOW!

Admittedly, no a 'backyard' flock...lol
