Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

Bee he was a beautiful bird! Hopefully there are little Toby Jrs. running around!!

Lisa :)

I only know of one and I gave him away to a lady long ago. He was just as pretty as Toby and just as sweet. It was a funny story because I brought him to church to give to her and many people were offended at my bringing a rooster to church, though he was not actually brought into the sanctuary. They acted like they'd never seen a chicken before, let alone one at a church building. This is rural agricultural country...and the people have forgotten what made it great. Chicken and preachers used to go hand in hand back in the day as folks would have the preacher over to their house after services and they'd kill a chicken or two right then and there to cook for the meal.

Oh, how far we have fallen....

The first question that popped into my mind is who doesn't check their chicken coop for 5 days and realize there is a cub living there? Weird! Or, they found the cub and was keeping it there and not feeding it properly? Even more weird! Life is strange sometimes.....

I was thinking the same thing, Bee. Bizarre too that the cub being so hungry didn't feast on any chicken lol

I couldn't imagine not checking my coop for 5 days in the winter even if I fed them dry food. I go out to the coop at least twice a day........
Maybe they knew the cub was in there and just thought it would make a cute pet? Lol

@Bee... I'm glad you got the deed done and feel okay about it. Whew, I feel for you! I bet you'll miss him. He was so perdy and a real good roo like him doesn't come along every day.

Sweetums seems to be getting along with the hens alright but they keep picking at the tips of his tail feathers as they walk by. I'm assuming that is a confined, I'm bored, issue as I've never seen these chickens pick at another bird's feathering in that manner. Or maybe courtship behavior? Either way they seem to like him. They've been checking out the nest boxes this morning....lets hope this lock down period will get the idea in their heads about their purpose in life.

Sounds like a love connection! LOL
