Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

Thank you, WW!

He was pretty, wasn't he? I was surprised at how small his breast filets really were and this speaks of the difference between the varieties of Plymouth Rock birds....the WR females had bigger breasts and thighs than this Partridge Rock male. That's how I gauge a true dual purpose breed..not how big the roosters get but how meaty and big the hens get while still having excellent laying. My WRs had excellent lay. In the end they also made for a huge meal and I cull more hens in my flocks than I ever do roosters, so it's important to me to have a hen that finishes well.

Bee, I'm sorry you had to do that but I believe everything happens for a reason. I have a Partridge Plymouth Rock roo and he is definitely beautiful! Unfortunately we don't get along. We have finally come to an agreement that he needs to stay the heck out of my way!! lol Looking at the pics, I couldn't really tell, but it looks like mine is a lot bigger than Toby. When he jumps off the roost, he sounds like an ostrich or something like that landing. He's definitely nuts, he can't crow very well, but boy can he do the flamenco dance!!!

Pics! We love pics. I'd like to see your Toby...the beauty of this breed was one of the main reasons I chose it, along with the laying genetics to be found in the Rock breeds, though after having a few PR hens I changed my mind on their laying capacity. Out of all the types of Rock I've had, nothing has topped the WRs I've had for laying and big carcasses.

Makes it easy on neighbor relations though.

I don't have any neighbors!!!

I live on top of a mountain in West Virginia, 5 miles out a gravel and dirt road, with the closest neighbor over a mile away!!25 acres of my little piece of heaven. I MIGHT get about 10 vehicles a day going by but they're mostly 4-wheelers!

What portion of the state are you in?

I'm about 20 miles south of Summersville towards Beckley. Here's how I give directions: Go down 41 to Drunkard's Roost, make a left then an immediate right. Go to the 3-way stop sign & turn left. Go about a mile and turn right then 5 miles and you're at my house.

You know we don't have north, south, east, or west here. If they ever move a rock or cut down a tree, I will be completely lost....
