Thank you, WW!He was pretty, wasn't he? I was surprised at how small his breast filets really were and this speaks of the difference between the varieties of Plymouth Rock birds....the WR females had bigger breasts and thighs than this Partridge Rock male. That's how I gauge a true dual purpose breed..not how big the roosters get but how meaty and big the hens get while still having excellent laying. My WRs had excellent lay. In the end they also made for a huge meal and I cull more hens in my flocks than I ever do roosters, so it's important to me to have a hen that finishes well.![]()
Bee, I'm sorry you had to do that but I believe everything happens for a reason. I have a Partridge Plymouth Rock roo and he is definitely beautiful! Unfortunately we don't get along. We have finally come to an agreement that he needs to stay the heck out of my way!! lol Looking at the pics, I couldn't really tell, but it looks like mine is a lot bigger than Toby. When he jumps off the roost, he sounds like an ostrich or something like that landing. He's definitely nuts, he can't crow very well, but boy can he do the flamenco dance!!!
