Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

Hi All,
I just found this string and still catching up. I thought this bit of information was interesting, has anyone noticed a difference in hatch-ability with the information listed?

Someone mentioned feeding hogs FF, has anyone tried FF on horses?
The reason I ask, we have seven year old non-raced thoroughbred gelding, we were having trouble keeping weight on him.We switched him from grass to alfalfa, he is wormed on regular basis, floated his teeth, added senior glow feed supplement and soaked beet pellets. He is back up to about 1200 pound and looks good but I would like to get him off regular worming and wonder if fermented beet pellets would do the trick?
Thanks,
Joe

I won't know about hatchability until next spring!

Have you tried Calf Manna by Manna Pro? You probably don't need it but with winter coming, if you need an extra boost for weight, you could try it.

Now that you have his weight up, couldn't you just stop the regular worming and see how he does? By "regular worming" do you mean "often" or paste wormers?

Hi All,
Still catching up.
The fluid from fermentation ... When it sits for a while can you see vinegar eels in the fluid? VE are small but still visible especially when back-lit.
Thanks,
Joe
Not a thing...that's the good stuff! A young fellow on the other forum threw it out because he thought it was mold.....and it IS mold. The good kind...give it a sniff. Is it sour smelling? Does your fermented mix have little bubbles in it? Then you off to a good start with your fermentation. Give it a stir and get that all mixed into your feed. The next day you will see the same thing. The bacteria that are produced by fermentation ARE a mold but they are the good kind and as long as you feed them, provide them with air every now and again(stir it up) and keep them wet, they will continue to grow well.

Yum.

Hi,
We were using a paste worm-er 2-3 times a year but are now thinking about having our Vet check stool samples for worm eggs.

Has anyone noticed a decrease in worms in their flock since using FF?
Thanks,
Joe

Hi, I've been reading this thread for hours, I am on post 260 of 1215, I'm ready to start fermenting!! Can anyone please tell me if there is info in this thread about using fermented feed for older birds and birds that are layers, not meat birds? Half my girls are just about a year old and the rest are about 8 months old. Is it okay to just start them on this? I just bought all the ingredients to make my own feed and I want to ferment it for my layers. Thanks!

In the studies they did, they found that older layers were less eager to try the FF than birds started at a younger age, but other folks on here have tried it and they have had favorable response. I intend to start feeding it to my much older layers who are 6 yrs. old and still productive birds, so it can only increase that productivity....but I'll report how it goes.

I've found that most any animal will eat most any species appropriate feed if they are hungry enough and they don't have a choice, so I'd take away any other dry feeds you may want to offer as an alternative and just give the FF. They'll eat it.

attention walmart shoppers in the vinegar isle they have heinz unpasturiezed apple cider vinegar with mother 1 quart size 32 fl oz. for 3.79.
so for me cheaper is a keeper. i even broke down and got an extra bottle.

Okay I Googled them.

Sorry I should have put in more of an explanation.
I raise Betta Splendens and feed VE's to newly hatched fry. I start with apple cider vinegar in a jar with apple slices and very quickly VE's appear ready to be fed to small Betta fry.

I suspect VE's are in FF cultures.
Who knows what we are really eating.

Hi,
I will check Calf Manna but we are trying to not feed anything with grain because it tends to make him hot and ready to run, no running just trail riding.
