Would have been good to see this in the egg broken open in a dish.
There can be pieces of tissue that come off of part of the reproductive system and get encased as the egg forms. It could also be some kind of hardened pus from an infection.
A 3 1/2 year old bird is more likely to have these problems than younger birds...especially as they may be shutting down laying to molt this time if the year.

True, it's probably has to do with molting because when my birds molt, they really molt! Sorry for a less descriptive picture, my brother had cracked it in the pan when I found it.
