I have three hens and one rooster they are eight month old RIRs but ive noticed when I use my eggs only one third are fertile is this naturale? Will my rooster Larry ever get caught up? I appreciate any help,info and input.

I havent incubated any eggs yet im hoping to get a small incubator and give it a try in the springThat sounds pretty rare. Have you tried incubating them?
I determine fertility by the blood like spot in the egg when its cracked. Is this correct or did I make another mistake?Just to check, how are you determining fertility?
thanks so much for the pics and info studying todays eggs i think all were fertile I actually took Larry a treat and told him to keep up the good workBlood or meat spots aren't indicators of fertility. Check out this thread, she has some good pictures. It really takes a practiced eye to tell if an egg is fertile.

With your roo to hen ratio, and the age of your birds, my thought is all your eggs are fertile.
