So I’ve been feeding my hens FF. They’re egg production seems to have slowed down but we also have been having weird weather in S.Florida. Could it be that they are just getting used to it? Also, I’ve been doing the slop back method, I also throw some cracked corn in with it. So, I was wondering if this looks like mold!! It doesn’t smell bad, just a lil sour.
Thanks everyone!

Mold can be differentiated b/c it usually has a fuzzy/hairy appearance. How long do you let your feed ferment? You are in a warm climate, so I'd try to limit the ferment to 48 hours.

When I do my FF, I feed out almost all of the feed (holding back about a cup full to "seed" the new batch) then mix up a new batch. Other folks treat it like a sour dough: remove 2 qt's of feed, add 2 more quarts to the bucket, so their bucket never gets close to empty. I'm just not comfortable doing it that way.

Hard to tell from the photos but that might not have been mold, since it doesn't really look fuzzy to me? Wasn't a bad idea to toss and restart just as a precaution.

I have had mold a few times when the weather gets hot but otherwise I can usually refill the jar (using a little of the previous FF as a kickstart) several times without issue.

Well the weather warmed up for a couple days, my FF took off! Lol.. bubbling, big, wow.. still don’t know if that’s mold or the helpfully stuff.
