I haven't checked but is there something in the almanac? Surely it's not just the hot summer this year causing so many bird across such a vast area to not lay.
Yup, mine are 17 weeks old and I'm waiting for that first egg. I have some leghorns so I'm hoping that I won't have to wait too long
I can't wait to start using them. It's good to know that the black australorps will be a little later. I've heard that when they start going though, you get as many brown eggs from them as you do white from the leghorns. It's pretty hot here so I hope that doesn't slow them down. I have a friend who has had chickens much longer than me and she said that in hot climates, chickens actually lay better in the winter.

Actually, we've had more of a mild summer. Not sure if it is actually a global egg-delay epidemic or just an overall shortage of patience. In my instance, I think it's just the latter

Me too!
Wow it's been really hot for longer than normal here and the thunderstorms seemed slightly stronger than normal too.
18 weeks now and no eggs yet. My Leghorn/Orpington mix sure has big, red comb/wattles, though. The Black Star and Aracauna have a long time to go, I'm sure.
Nineteen weeks and just got my first squat and my first egg song (in the same day!) but from two different hens.
Here's the thing: from all my reading, I was expecting my Barred Rocks to lay first (their combs and wattles have been large and red for a while), then maybe the Production Reds, with the Light Brahmas and Buff Orpingtons taking quite a bit longer. But it's one of my Light Brahmas who's squatting for me, and a Buff Orpington who sang the egg song yesterday afternoon. Maybe we'll have our first egg as the hens are battened down in their coop for Irene?
Here's Alexia squatting for me. Poor dear; I can't give her what she wants...
