Fight or flight - A roleplay

Marcello coughed as he breathed in the dust and rose quickly to get above the cloud and Vita. He grabbed into the hind legs of the deer and helped Vita lift it "You look like you need some help." He winked with a grin.

Vita flashed a sideways grin and nodded in thank you. Her wings beat a little quicker now that she had help carrying the dead deer.

"Yet" Phoenix agreed, settled on a nearby tree branch "Do you have some kind of... backup plan for when they do?"

"No," Aiden admitted uneasily, following with a sigh. "That's not to say I haven't thought about it; I remember initially planning to build huts when I became in charge of this flock, but I think our best bet is remaining sparse like we are now. Huts would be too conspicuous. But that's aside from the point," he trailed off in thought for a moment, looking down at the ground.

Phoenix watched him without speaking further on the subject, her eyes were distant, as if she was thinking about something else. Finally, she spoke again "Are there any other flocks... like us?"

He met her eyes again, thoughtfully, before bending over to collect some sticks. "Yes, one that I know of, actually." He picked up a rock in his talons and sat down, grabbing another in the other foot. He bashed the two rocks together repeatedly with his powerful eagle feet, sending off small sparks that slowly lit of the pile of twigs. "I don't know if they still exist or not," he said in between strikes, "But there was one that split off from us a long time ago, around the beginning of the flock. They travelled away to find warmer climate. I've never met any of them."

Before long, there was a small fire on the nest of twigs. He placed two boulders at each side of the fire, stabbed a spare branch through the rabbit and sat it on the gap between the rocks, and it hung limply, as the flames nearly licked it's surface, the heat beginning to cook the meat.

Aydene stood atop of a peak on guard duty, his eyes carefully scanning the land below himself. He then spread his massive black-flecked wings out, allowing himself to fall and catch the air flowing around himself with his flight feathers.

He continued to soar above the others, looking out for any signs of distress. Aydene quickly swooped down with his talons stretched out before him, snatching up an obese rabbit before ascending back into the air.
