Fill in the blank...FCBM, cream legbar, exchequerLH, Salmon Faverolles and _______

The culling bridge= the antithesis of the rainbow bridge. So sad!

Apologies for the tactless joke... But it can also be a necessary kindness, so it’s very good that you’re considering it before you get there. Some places it is very hard to find a vet that will see poultry, so you many need to be able to do it yourself and it’s good to have a plan in place if it is needed.

What about Dominiques instead of Barred Rocks? Ours is crazy friendly (that's her in my avatar) and the rose comb might be more compatible than a single comb in PA winters?

Our Cochin/Appenzeller Spitzhauben, Speckled Sussex, New Hampshire, and Easter Eggers are great with my 8, 5 and 3 year olds. We have a gold-laced Orpington who is more reserved, as is another Easter Egged and 2 Ameracaunas. Those were all 1 - 2.5 years old when we got them, whereas the others were 5-8 months, so might be a function of age, rather than breed. They are ALL amazingly friendly when mealworms are involved.

I have kind of an asshole cockerel, who we are working with. I have to say, he is best with my 8 year old. So I'm not convinced they don't mix with kids, though I'm not advocating someone else risk their children. Just that I am with mine, haha.

I know that it could be a possibility down the road, but at this point, I’m dreaming of chicks and hatching eggs! I think Backyard chickens is going to have to be my tele-vet in the future. And i’ve Already researched the cones and the hedge pruners if that day ever comes.

Depending on individual temperament, Rocks can absolutely be housed with Faverolles. I keep both, with the exception that my SFs are bantams. Not raised together, either. One would predict even further complications, right? ;) My mixed flock also includes Silkies, and a couple bantam Polish coming in a few weeks. It's often claimed these are physically unable to live in harmony.

If you want Barred Rocks, it might be worth a shot. :) Quite honestly, most breeds are compatible. Just keep an eye on the situation.

Thanks! It’s encouraging to read that it can be done! And with a SF bantam no less!
