ps-what is your experience level with incubating?

This is only my 2nd hatch...VERY inexperienced.... my main knowledge is from reading and more reading. BYC has helped ALOT.

The ancona I thought was dead is now moving, but the pip looks weird. I'm hopeful. Also, the egg marked RIR hatched out a black and yellow chick...so I have no idea what kind of chick this is. After the hatch is over I'll post pics, and maybe someone can tell me? I love surprises

I know what you mean! One of my chicks came out of a lighter BCM egg and it has white fluff on it's head and under the wings. I was like

Then i talked to the breeder that I got them from and she told me that the hen is a birchen marans! So

I may have lucked out with the genetics and wound up with a little birchen baby!

Well the verdict is in just got 3 buff ameraucanas, the rest are dead. I had the worst trouble getting my humidity up yesterday and feel that was the culprit. I believe all pullets, normally would be really thrilled but was hoping to get a line started. I will probally have to get more eggs.

So I broke the cardinal rule!!!! I totally helped one of them hatch..... I'm not sure if he'll make it but there's no way he would have if I'd have left him. He was partially shrink wrapped. So he's resting in the bator in a moist paper towel. My other four are happily running about the brooder though they're sticking mostly to the eco heater. Super cute babies. Bummed the hatch rate was so poor but what can you do really. I have another batch that go into lockdown on Wednesday and it looks FAR more promising!

Sorry for everyone's losses. That part is no fun! But you just have to pick your head up, take care of the babies you have and try again!
