Finally a pip!

I never would have thought of playing the sound of baby chicks to encourage hatching. They perked up when I played it just now. I am currently at three chicks hatched, one looks like its about to zip. It keeps poking its nose out the hole and the others have gathered around. Ten eggs have pips on them so fingers crossed they all hatch.

I start playing it as soon as I see my first pip. I play in periodically here and there over the next few hours, then as soon as I see the beginning of a zip, I play it in a loop fashion until the job is done. It ususally does not take more than 15 minutes for my chicks to finish zipping once they start. Since I move my chicks out to the brooder during hatch I also use it for the following eggs. It's amazing how motivating it is to the chicks. (I hope no one removes that video from youtube, I'll be lost...lol) I actually think it's a better motivator than the actually chicks in the incubator...lol

I have seven that have hatched. Two that are hatching right now and all the rest have pipped. Most of them are blue with a bit of yellow and one or two have a little red instead of yellow.

Aw they sound so cute I have 7 also and one that has pipped in the middle and it is at the small end I am trying to wait to see if he can make it out by himself but I dont think so and i am not sure how to help me i think he might be stuck his membrane was not white like the others it seems a little greyish looking

Well I hope your hatch is still going great I had 9 eggs at lock down and 9 eggs now 1 I had to help out this morning so he is a little weak all mine are black so i am not sure how I manage that

I am on day 19 and anxiously awaiting our first pip or sign of life.. Did you have any movement at all before you started seeing pips? Glad things are going well for you! This is our very first hatch attempt.

I did happen to see 1 of the eggs move a little but not much until we saw the pip and then you could hear it peeping I have to say for the first time hatching I think we did ok good luck with yours to and make sure you post pic's here is a pic of mine

I didn't really notice any movement until the first one pipped. All total I have fifteen live chicks, two that died in the zipping process and three that haven't done a thing. I decided to leave them in there a little bit longer. I might candle them tonight just to see what they look like. They could be duds. So far I am very happy with my babies. They all appear to be very healthy.

I'm going to try to feather sex them afterwhile to see how many pullets there are. Hoping the ones with the yellow are pullets so I can put all my orps together in a couple of months. Then I'm going to put my red stars back with the sex link rooster they were raised with. He's getting kind of lonely and I just didn't have it in me to make dumplings out of him even though he is mean as a snake.

Some people see movement before pips, I seldom see anything until they pip.
