Even after more than 20 years of chicken keeping I feel the same finding the first pullet eggs of the season.

Oh yes, we know how you feel!
Mine are all on hiatus right now; what with molting (the older ones) and shorter daylight hours (the pullets), everybody has an excuse, sigh. But as soon as they get back under production I am going to be as excited as you are, I'm sure, although this is my 10th year of chicken tending! Congratulations, and may you enjoy many, many more!
