Location: Central Washington.
No chickens currently.
Grew up with chickens.
Property size 1 acre.
Pets: 4 dogs (2 big, 1 medium, 1 small) and 1 cat. The only dog I worry about is the little one. The other dogs do well with the neighbors chickens.
Plan to free range during the day and lock 'em down at night.
Been toying with the idea of getting a little flock together for a year or 2. I finally decided that now is the time. I have my coop design picked out. Now that the sun is melting the snow I plan to start checking out the scrap wood I have around the place and seeing what I can use for my coop.
I have been using MyPetChicken and this site for research for various breeds. I spoke with my father about what kind of chicken we had as a kid (RIR's and silkies). So I have settled on my cold hardy breeds (YEP I am mixing breeds because there are way to many cool looking birds to try).
So now I have my design picked, I have my birds picked, and a plan. Time to make it happen.
