Finally had an attack:-(

The dog growled at her child...no second chances for a dog who growls at a kid in my yard....even if it's my own dog!! I agree it all goes back to the owner being irresponsible, but do you wait to do something until it bites the child? Will he take responsibility then?...probably not.

First of all we only began shooting him with bb's when he wouldn't go away when we ran/yelled at him. We asked the owner repeatedly to put his dog up and he just doesn't?!?!?!? WE have a responsability to protect our childrena dn our animals. If this dog won't leave and his owenr won't put him up than the dog gets it. Period!
Second of all, like Katy said, this dog growled at my child. WHat happened exactly is: My 9 year old daughter walked out of our house to go check on our birds, the dog ran up on her growling and chased her back into our house!!! If she wasn't close to the back door...I shudder to think of what might have happened.
Thirdly, this dog owner also has children that he watches just about as closely as the dog! He has a 5 year old who wonders the neighborhood, is always hungry, and has even been up on their roof with a hammer nailing!!!! When we told him that his son was on the roof with nails and a hammer, he told us that he knew that, he told him to fix the roof!!!!!!

Anyways, I do hesitate to do anything to other people's pets but our situation is getting out of control. And by the way our dog catcher doesn't do anything about actually catching animals or holding people responsable for their pets. If I call him he will only try to cause trouble about our birds.

Anyways...the dog's on my short list!

P.s. I'm not goin off on you Hotwing. You are right that this dog was probably a good one before my neighbor happened to him and it is very sad that the situation is coming to this. As far as the bbs go though, the neighbor didn't take care of him and he won't leave our yard. It is kind of all we have in our power.

Karri,
I just noticed that you are in Arkansas as well. If you want to e-mail me and it turns out you are in one of the small towns close to us, there might be something I can do. My SO is in law enforcement here. Our dog catcher is useless. I keep threatening to apply for the job if he ever vacates it. But then again, why would he? Small town politics, he sits on his butt at the jail all day, but he's the son of a SOMEBODY in this small town, so why should he bother to do his job.
I sympathize for with you. :aww

Karri, I replied. My SO should be waking up anytime now, since he goes on duty at 2. I'll discuss it with him and get back to ya. It might be this afternoon. I need a nap and I have to make my own trip into town *ugh*

OK I just really checked on her for the first time. The morning my neighbor brought her to me I didn't want to upset her any more than she already was so I just sprayed her raw spots with iodine. Now she is still not eating much but she has begun to eat more and at least stand up sometimes. Sop I went and gave her a real close loook.:mad:She has ACTUAL PUNCTURE wounds that I didn't see before!!!! Nothing like the ones on here I've seen where the poor girl has had to be stiched up but she has half inch wide, half inch deep teeth prints?!?!?!?!?!? I am really peaved and now I'm worried that she might get an infection?!?!?!? Should I bathe her? Should I put something other than iodine on her? Should I give her terramyacin in case there is an infection brewing up????? I ma going to do a search on these things but I just really wanted to vent. I was mad enough at a dog tearing out all of her beautiful tail feathers but it actually tried to eat my baby?!?!?!!??!?!?!?

Karri,
Keep us posted. I wish I knew what would help with the wounds, but I don't. I'm sure the chicken specialists around here do though.
Did you get my e-mail?

Hey Gritstar I just pm'ed Diana and I am hoping that she knows what I should do.
I haven't gotten your email yet b/c I haven't even checked my email yet this morning. I'll do tha tright now.

First off I want to apoligize to you and everyone here. I don't want a lynching party with torches and clubs after me please lol. It is I am just get so angry over people that don't take care of their dogs. I have seen many people ruin good dogs. I hope you can get animal control to take the dog and I am afraid with his aggressive behavior he will be put down another victim of owner neglect. I once had a dog that lived in a fenced yard up the st. from me. Unfortunely it was in a heavily traffic area on the way to a local conveinence store. He was the nicest dog and I petted him and such. Then some local boys around 8 or so started to tease him and threw firecrackers at him. I yelled at them to stop and someday this dog would hurt somebody. Needless to say he became very angry(the dog). Well the worst happened. A girl stuck her hand over the fence and he nailed her. Another good dog that was ruined. Yes I do believe you have the right to protect your family and birds but I just get so upset.

Hotwings, I completely understand. I get upset too. The SO and I were out for a motorcycle ride one day when we stopped to get a coke at a convenience store. There was a starving dog sitting outside, watching everyone come and go. A starving dog with a collar. I had like a dollar in change in my pocket, so when I went into the store and bought the only thing I could, 3 honey buns that were 3/$1. When I came out and started feeding the dog my SO shook his head and said honey, you can't save all the starving dogs in the world. My reply was, no, but when this one lays down to sleep tonight he'll do it without hunger pangs. I believe that each of us, working one on one with another creature, can make a little difference; and I have to settle for that. Lord knows I can't solve all the problems.
