Finally I am getting the coop built!! Still in progress.

Building a coop is better than therapy! Great job! More pics when completed please.

I figured here in Utah we are moving into the dry season, so I am not too worried about weather affecting it before I finish it. So this way has bought me a couple of months (if needed) to worry about the exterior.

I'll get some pics up tonight of the "almost" finished interior. Its painted and vinyl floor in, still installing the roost though.

Nice coop, appears to be well laid out. Should be a beautiful final product.

Curious why you're going to the expense of insulation? With the wonderful ventilation you've got built in and relatively warm winters I just gotta ask.

I already have the insulation sitting in my gargage, so the only added cost will be staples (which I also have plenty of sitting around). It does not get super cold here, but we do see a couple of weeks a year that hang around 10-20 degrees with some lows even colder. Plus I am hoping with good summer ventalation, the insulation may help keep it a little cooler (hopefully).

building the roost. with cleanout tray underneath.

Finally got the girls, and 1 boy, moved into the coop on Friday. I have some pics I'll try to post soon. They are ecstatic to be out there. They are getting a hang of the steps into the coop. But still need alittle assistance at night. Last night 11 of them were in the coop, I just had to move 5 of them in. I wish I had thought to snap a couple of pics of the ones that were in there. 9 of them were perched on the top perch, stacked pretty tight. It was a kodak moment missed.

I still have plenty of odds and ends to do on the coop (exterior sheeting, moldings, paint, etc), but I too bad for them and had to get them moved out. I have not fully covered the run yet, but have put up a 4 ft perimeter on top of the fence that angles in at about 45*, kind of like barbed wire. It should do a pretty good job at keeping them in for now, and maybe deter the flying pests from entering. While putting up the high perimeter netting, I did notice a rather large bird flying around, it probably had a 4 foot wing span, but i have no idea what it was. This was before I had the chickens out there, so I am hopeing it just moved on...
