Hi everyone,

I just wanted to say thank you for your advice. My brilliant Kurdish pullet who is only 6 months old hatched 3 chicks in day 20 (yesterday) and this morning when I woke up, I checked under her, another one hatched. There were 9 eggs under her (4 hatched and 5 are still under her). I was so excited when I saw the little tiny creatures under her wings. I hope the other 5 will hatch although I didn't see any crack in them.

I have one question, how long do the chicks live on their own until mom will take them out of the nest? Is it 24 hours or more?

Thank you

My silkies take their brood outside usually the next day. Depending on the weather. But each mama is different. Depends on how comfy she is with everything. A nervous nelly may wait a few days. Good luck!! Post pics when you get a chance!!! I have a silkie sitting on 2 due the 22. I have 8 in incubator, 3 hatched this morning, waiting on other 5.

Thank you dear, my broody is still sitting on the remaining eggs. (5 hatched and 4 remaining).

Here is a pic of the broody with a chick under her wing :)

If you're concerned about baby eating or drinking while mama waits for the other eggs to hatch, you could put a little food and water in with them. (be sure the water isn't in a dish or waterer such that baby might drown) Mama may appreciate it. Mine have yet to go broody but they've never said no to handfed treats when they're waiting around in the nest box for an egg to come out.

Thank you dear, yes I did the same as you said. I have five beautiful chicks playing around with their proud mom :)
