Hi, my name is Amber. I'm a mom of one 14 year old boy, and many fur and feather babies. I work full time outside my home, and homeschool my son. I have a small urban homestead (aka my townhouse...lol) in Glen Burnie where I enjoy container gardening and keeping my backyard/ indoor flocks. Currently we have 5 quail and 2 juvenile silkies inside, (and dogs and cats) and 5 hens (red sex links) outside with our 2 Pekin and 2 Khaki Campbell ducks. I also have 9 chicks in the brooder currently.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
We started with quail 3 years ago, then ducks last year, and added chickens this last spring
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
16 including the ones in the brooder
Plus 4 ducks
(3) What breeds do you have?
2 white silkies, 5 red sex-links, 2 Australorp mixes, 1 of each of the following: black Australorp, speckled Sussex, golden laced Wyandotte, silver laced Wyandotte, buff Orpington, partridge rock and barred rock.
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
Been lurking for years now, when I was researching hatching quail eggs as a homeschool project. It is true what they say, about quail being "gateway birds!"
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Container gardening, spoiling all my furr and feather babies, and reading
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I work for kaiser Permanente as a pharmacy tech, and I attend Faith Baptist Church in Glen Burnie. I'm a full blown chicken addict!! I'm very blessed to have a Husband who tolerates and even secretly enjoys my growing bird habit (except he said no to getting a turkey...boo him!)
