At a recent Swap Meet, here in Florida, a fellow BYCer told me that she buys her feed at the mill.

I googled feed mill in my city and found one, not 15 minutes from my work on my way home!

I am now saving $4.00 on a 50# bag of starter/grower and $3.50 on a 50# bag of layer crumbles. I am also saving over $1.00 a bag on whole corn! That is almost a savings of $8.00 a week! That is a savings of over $400.00 a year! I am delighted and figured that I would pass it on! Hope you can save money too!

How true!!

The first year I had chickens I bought my feed from the same store as I got the chicks at. I was paying somewhere around $10.00 a bag. After that year I called the feedmill (who btw, gets chicks too from the same hatchery as the fleet/farm store) and have been feeding my flock for almost half the price!!!

Sure, now that corn and especially soybeans have gone up the price of feed has gone up but 5 years later I am still not paying $10.00 for a 50# bag!!!

True that!
The feed mill here is a co. that makes bread, sweets etc.

The feed from the mill is between 8-10. (through a reseller). I could save more by driving to get it direct for about 6 but, it is not worth the 50 mile drive each way because we don't own enough chickens to justify the gas.

the most important benefit to usin your local mill aint savin money but your also supportin your local community,(local farmers etc..)and your animals are eatin a better quality, fresher, and probably cleaner feed, (its the only way i feed my stock)(only way i ever will) but savin money is also a great perk too.

Very true, I try to support the farmers every chance I get. It is much fresher too! I bought four bags and had to have the ride shotgun because it was raining (he hand loaded it for me). I have done this many times with the "feedstore" feed. I couldn't smell it. I

that ride home, the truck smelled like I had a whole row of corn growing in there!

yea its hard to beat the smell of fresh distillers grain, i have had to do the same thing in our dodge truck

I can get 100lbs of feed for less than it cost to get 50lbs of feed at the store!!!! And, the best part is the meat birds poo doesn't smell as bad.

We have a feed mill about 5 mins from us,layer feed is $8.75 a bag for stuff they mill but, it's corn with some powder(soybean I think) and they pick out the corn and leave the powder so I do not get as many eggs.
My birds eat a Layer crumble that is milled here in Ohio but, they have dealers all over the state.

I use a feed mill and have a recie for my layer and chick feed, save a lot of buck, and no additives I don't want in there
