Check the first post in this thread and there's a link to the page where I show what I did. I just have to figure out a "soft close" mechanism now, as looking at that video I can see my little lad nearly lost a finger as the lid slammed shut. LOL

I love the red paint! If you want it close more softly you can add some extra weight under the treadle. A small board hidden under the treadle and between the treadle arms should be enough to slow it down. Just be sure to find the weight you want before you attach it. Good luck with training your chooks.
