fireworks ban

Fireworks are banned on all public lands and that includes national forests, fires start in forests from a lot of things good management keeps them from burning up. I don't think lighting a few fireworks for a few days to celebrate our independence is all that bad, I have one dog that hates them the others are fine and they all survive. It is actually our Constitution that allows us to buy fireworks over state lines, interstate commerce laws.

You can buy them in Ohio, but can not use thewm. I just watch my back neighbor shoot them off for 2 hours. The police station is half a mile away.Maybe they police watched the show too.Certainly did not stop it.I don't mind them so much except when I find spent fireworks all over my yard and roof.

Everywhere I have been the fireworks display has been done in public parks and adults and kids shot their own firworks off before and after the show in the parks.

I have a hard time believing that. Where did you hear that?

I looked up how many died fighting for our independence, 4,435. That would mean we would have to average 19 people a year dieing shooting fireworks. Its closer to 2 a year I believe.

Some cities do allow them in parks but the BLM and USFS do not allow them on those lands. Oregon does not allow them in any park. The Indian reservations have the best fireworks and the cheapest.

Natural selection, survival of the fittest as it seems would apply here. Most accidents and deaths from fireworks are self inflicted.

I love fireworks We have a family firework party every year and the last few years I have lit them. I have done a lot of research making sure we are using them correctly aka using pipes sand etc to shoot them off correctly. We even have our garden hose out just in case there one goes stray and hits our yard. "also includeings a bucke of water" This year howeve reverything is wet so theres a very little chance of catching a fire. Most of the reason for banning the fireworks is that people don't use them correctly get hurt and then set fires. BUt i beleve if you use them responsibly everything will be alright. I even use safety glasses when lighting just in case.

1. have protection
2. make sure its safe
3. make sure you are shooting away from people (we are in the country so I can shoot in any direction.
4. Light and get away In case there is a mishap you should be far enough away to not have any problems.
5. out of all these years we have been shooting them off we have had only one mishap. a small peice of firework fell onto someones lap and they though it was a bug

just my 2 cents! I spent the rest of my money on the fireworks!

Very good post, safety is always #1 I supervise my boys and others when we light them. I used to go to the reservations and buy hundreds of dollars worth and have a big multi family display until they got too expensive. You could buy them for about a 1/3 of the price on the reservations compared to off reservation.

I really wish they would ban them here too

we have teens chasing each other up and down the main roads in town firing them at one another... they think its a big game.

my neighbor set them off at 11:30pm on Friday night waking everyone up when the dog hit the bed like a ton of bricks

we have been lucky this year, we have had a LOT of rain fall so fires are at a low risk but if there were ever a fire my house would be gone in a heart beat!
