fireworks ban

Ok, the way I read the original post was a question as to whether they were banned in your area. Who would have thought it'd become a full blown discussion on a person's "rights" or whether we should ban cars, etc?

Personally, I was glad to hear they were banned in our area last week due to extreme drought conditions. We've been a tinder box and a few weeks ago had over 80 fires throughout Florida. So does it make sense to send sparks everywhere? Use your heads~good grief! (never said I was politically correct

However, we have finally gotten some rain and the ban has been lifted. Which I'm glad of.

We can have them here in MN as long as they aren't the ones that shoot up into the air (you have to have a permit).

Our city puts the firework show out on the lake and the public can light fireworks on the beach from the July 1st to the 5th on the and anywhere in city or county, it is great. I love the city I live in they rock! This is our favorite holiday of the year and always has been. We have a big family get together every year. Last year it was canceled because of winds. This year it looks like a go and long over due. We still have all of our fireworks from last year.

Here's a fun thing to think about. According to Public Health officials, one single substance is involved in most acts of violence, most suicides, causes serious birth defects, is a major factor in industrial and other accidents, and is responsible for enormous losses in property and productivity.

Think life would be better if we banned it?

That is exactly what the 18th Amendment did.

The unintended consequences were amazing.

I love PA's law. The can't sell them to PA residents but out-of-state people can buy them even though they're illegal in their respective states. All one has to show is a valid driver's license to buy them. The PA dealers even advertise on NY highway bulletin boards and the local TV stations. I often wonder what would happen if I, as the holder of a valid NY license so I can buy them in PA, were to set them off down there. Seems like that would be legal. This law works out well for PA fireworks dealers and state's sales tax even if the buyers risk fines and confiscation when they enter NY or NJ.

BTW, the ban in NY seems to be one of those laws that is winked at. While local TV shows PSA's reminding people that fireworks are illegal and showing all sorts of catastrophic accidents involving them, they also remind people to be careful setting them off. Usually the state police will not bother people coming in unless they stop them for another violation and find them.

Banned here, but the town is doing fireworks and we can see them from our roof, so we're gonna climb up there and watch. I bought sparklers as a surprise for my boyfriend and his family, hopefully we're allowed to use those still.

I come from MA, were they're illegal, but my grandfather is friends with a few of the cops in his city so he usually sets some off in his yard.

I recently moved from Oklahoma City, where possession is banned, to Midwest City, a suburb, where they are sold all over. I honestly don't know yet what the city ordinance in MWC is for setting them off.

In OKC, they will actually pull you over if they see you leaving a stand just outside the city limits and then driving in. They will confiscate them (Which they then probably take home and let their own kids set off). Nothing stops people from getting them into the city and setting them off everywhere.

My feeling are very mixed on this. IF people could be responsible about them, I'd have no problem with noise, etc. BUT, people are stoopid about it. My family always bought a ton of them, went down to my Aunt's place out in the by-Gods and watered the yard well, kept the hose handy and set off tons of them. Unfortunately, most people only think of themselves and teenagers don't think at all.
