fireworks ban

I've thought about sneaking fireworks up here from SC before the Fourth. NC has a ban on selling them to mere citizens.

By fireworks, I mean the rockets that shoot into the air and explode, not those dumb little things that shoot out colorful sparks.

We can still have large public displasy, but they always have firetrucks right there to take care of any accidents--those putting on the show must be licensed. Lots of safeguards built in that aren't there when individuals shoot them off.

I've never lived anywhere that they were common on any time except for the 4th of July or New Years. Certainly not for a couple of weeks around those dates--JUST that night. However, they are sometimes used at ball games, and they had them at DS's graduation a few weeks ago.

I think fireworks bans an dumb. I live on two state lines where one of the 3 states has a fireworks ban. The state with the ban does not have a noticeably different amount of brush fires than the other two states. It also has the strictest burn laws too but no help there ether. Most wild fires are started by smokers, cars or arson. Fireworks an home burning related fires are a very very small percent.

But I don't want to take a chance on a small percent . It is just to dry this year. I live on a major north south free way and yes I worry every day about some jerk throwing some thing out the window.

Should we ban cars? Cars cause far more fires than fireworks.... What about heated homes or having power? Laws just for the sake of fear destroy this countrys rights.

Are you saying the forest fires were caused by fire works? Or are you just insisting that they will cause forest fires although it is kind of hard to find a wild fire that was caused by fireworks when so many are caused by lightning or moronic backpackers and hikers? Personally, I have no problem with safe and sane fireworks.

Time to outlaw electricity, natural gas, propane, gasoline, kerosene, candles, and any sort of closed or open fire. Fireworks seem to be involved in far fewer deaths, injuries, and fires than those. We also need to outlaw lightning, the curse of the Sierras.

We could be much safer if we mandated chopping off all arms and legs at birth; but I think it wouldn't be as popular as eroding other people's rights.
