First Chicken-eating-mouse experience . . .

I know one BYCer posted here a few weeks back with an unusual story of a hen choking on a mouse while she was trying to swallow it. Other than that, it seems like they normally can handle them okay.

i have never seen mine catch them.. but my traps have,, i just toss it in the run and they go nuts... rip it all apart. i wish they would learn to catch them. i have seen (at night) ALOT,,, 10 maybe,, they are getting to smart for the traps i guess,,

I have never seen this and am getting the impression (based on people posts) that chickens eat mice whole... So I have to ask. Do they eat them whole?? Good lord, what a bizzare thought!

I can't wait until my chickens are big enough to catch and eat mice/rats. I am so tired of them on this property it has been a major fight since we moved here 6 yrs. ago. If they really do this, my husband will be much more willing to accept all these animals I keep collecting.

i agree,,, this is my first year with chickens and i cant wait to see the difference in spring and summer with the bugs and ants.

One of the things I enjoy in Summer is leading all the chickens into one of my pastures, and watching them chase after grasshoppers

Pest control and cheap entertainment all at once

Pest control, cheap entertainment and fertizer spreaders. What a combination. And they make our breakfast, what more could we ask for.

Oh yeah, they also keep the grass down.

I'm not sure. I have seen mice in the past in the coop but not for a very long time. I did find a dead rat in the coop too.
