First Day :)

My four Americauna (sp.?) eggs arrived today(bought three, she sent four) so with what we have, hoping SOMETHING hatches!!! I am going to be optimistic though.

All myself and daughter can do is try our best.

How is everyone doing with their hatches??

I noticed while turning my eggs yesterday that there was a little bit of a smell. Today lets just say it was a "little" more pronounced.

So tonight I went ahead and did some candling that I wasn't planning on doing until Sunday.

I definitely found the bad egg but I am tossing out a total of 8 eggs that are clear. That leaves me with 4 eggs. Of the 4, three are looking good. The other egg has the aircell on the side instead of the large end. I don't imagine that's a good thing but I'll leave it in just in case.

Well, I am going to candle one more time again tomorrow. The last time I did everything looked good. If everything goes well, they should be hatching on Wednesday.
So I think into the hatcher on Sunday night or Monday...

Sorry about your smelly eggs

It's not a pleasant smell but be glad you caught it before it exploded!!!

My coturnix quail come off the turner tonight and should hatch Sunday!!

That's the good thing about quail - they don't take quite as long as chickens!!!! Good luck everyone!

I haven't had one explode, but the last chicken hatch I had a nasty one in the bator. I never open it, so I didn't realize until the a/c kicked on and blew the stench all throughout the house. I candled all the eggs and found the smelly one. Took it outside because I was curious...dropped it in the gravel driveway and it was all moldy and STINKY! I have read of others who had them explode in the bator. YUCK.

I will send pics IF they hatch. I'm not holding out much hope but maybe I'll be surprised. Had alot of trouble with the humidity, although the temps were very consistent. Took the eggs off the turner and some were too light while others felt just right. Cross your fingers!!!

When I smelled that odor, I started searching the BYC for info. After hearing about some people having eggs explode I knew I needed to get that egg out fast.

I candled it before tossing it. It had a very distinct bacterial line on the inside. Unfortunately it looked like the egg had been developing too

I wonder how that starts? Perhaps a hairline crack or maybe some other way the bacteria gets in there.

Oh well, I'll concentrate on the eggs I have left.

LOL!! I have a LOT of variety right now.Daughter and I wanted to hatch out some different breeds and mixes, so staggering hatches.

Well, what is going on everyone?

Today (Monday) is day 18. Tonight I'll be upping the humidity and sitting on my hands, LOL.

I did candle tonight. 3 of my 4 Welsummmer eggs look good with some movement. The other one with the aircell on the side doesn't look like anything is going on.

Also, one of my silkie mixed eggs is developing. I don't really know 'who' laid the egg. All I know is that the roo is a partridge silkie. The hen is either a New Hampshire Red, RIR, White plymouth rock, or a Black sex link. This egg is only on day 8.

Fill me in on what's going on with your hatch!

Yes, I came home last night to 5 new quail babies!!! Still got 9 eggs to go so hopefully they'll hatch today. Here's some pics:
