Isn't that sweet! I had one duckling hatch and roll a wrong pipper into the corner and sit ON TOP of the egg like it was trying to help. I went to work, came home 5 hours later (expecting to assist) and he had hatched! At about 43 hours from first pip.
Its close to midnight here, so I'm about to go to bed. Trust your gut if any of them look distressed, but as long as they are getting air, even if they are resting, I think your humidity is high enough for them to not get stuck. So "try" to let them do it on their own, unless you feel they can't.
Talk to them, even sing to them! It can actually help!
I was going to say watch number one he will go to the next egg that is ready to come out once that one is out they boh will go to the next egg. You'll know in advance who's going to be next just by watching the current ones. They have a way of teasing those that aren't out and making the process go faster. Lol
Congratulations on them already. Keep up the good work. DUCK MOMMY!!!
Thanks so much guys! I really appreciate all the help and support! My son is totally smitten!! Those eggs are definitely being rolled around in there! They are busy little ducklings!
Sorry it took me so long to see the notification that I was mentioned back in the first few posts.
I often see the membrane a yellow brown colour especially on the ones that pip the wrong end of the egg, You have plenty of humidity on there so hopefully all is still progressing well.
Wow, I missed most of the excitement, but time differences do me in sometimes. Looks like you got all the help you needed and everything is going well.
Congrats on the new little ones! How are #3 and #5 doing now?
Thanks guys - aren't you sweet?! Thanks for checking in.
Number 3 has made a teeny tiny little bit of progress, he's putting his beak in and out but that's all at this stage. But he's happy and healthy enough - so I think I'll leave him be until the morning (7.50pm Sunday here).
Number 5 I have turned over and it has a tiny air hole. Membrane is yellowing but he's pretty happy.
Number 4 is in the zipping stage and will arrive some time tonight I'd say!
The two ducklings are sleeping on top of each other - too cute!
Sounds like everything is going very well now. I would do as you're already doing and let the others finish hatching and then see how #3 and #5 look then. If they continue to make progress, they may just hatch out on their own just fine. But if they get stuck at some point after the others are out, you might need to go in and help them out a little. At the moment they sound fine, though. Keep us posted!
Congratulations on your new ducklings i hope everything is still going well with hatch.
As far as leaving the ones that have hatched in the bator [and I have never hatched in one] but have followed along with many of these ladies that have or have helped someone else , I believe you leave the newly hatched ducklings in the bator till they are dry and fluffed up.
Keep us updated on how it is going. @NewAussieChook
