First Egg!! 19 Weeks Old

We also started getting duck eggs in last few weeks, then, low and behold another girl started laying, so 2 eggs daily. I have two more girls in the "wings" waiting to mature, should be in a month or so. Very exciting business. Loved the pics. Congrats.

I have to report in here too. I have been getting an egg a day for a couple of weeks and kept looking for a drake tale on the one who keeps mounting the other in the pool. Well as of four days ago, instead of seeing a drake tale, I'm finding two eggs in the nest each morning. So, I guess George will be called Beatrice from now on. During this time, I have had one double-yolk and one soft-shell. All the others are perfect and gradually getting a bit larger. And, oh my! they are so tasty. Not bad for these two rescued ducks.

It prob is a mutt but a darn pretty mutt lol We named her Speckled well the girls named her lol
Awe...she's lovely! She reminds me of my Black Swedish. Right down tot he speckled flippers! My Molly's head is more solid, but she has a huge bib (which is not good for showing, but I got her for eggs so I don't really care). What a cutie!

Congratulations!! I remember how excited I was last September when my lone female started laying at 18 weeks of age, and laying, and laying. An egg a day, missing a few, until short days in December. Still waiting for my five new girls to start laying. They are 19 1/2 weeks and still hitting the ground running and foraging each day.

Good luck!!

Can you imagine the bunch of us in a cafe giggling and commiserating about our duckers and our chickers? I've pretty much stopped talking to "outsiders" about the goings on in our little life. My best girlfriend listens patiently but others look at me cross eyed when they hear me say I cried when we found our first egg!

Oh yes don't I know. I was talking to my brother on the phone and I was talking about my goose eggs. He said you are eating weird stuff since moving there. I'm like what do you mean weird stuff. He said goose eggs. I'm like they aren't weird it's like a chicken egg. He said no it's not it's twice the size. I was trying to describe it and he said you just have mental issues lol. Some people just won't understand it and how it feels to grow or raise your own food. A simpler way of life that brings enjoyment and fulfillment.

My daughter found another soft shell egg today in the taller grass. It was in the early evening, but we don't really know how long the egg had been there. It looked fresh enough and we do have a doggie that would probably eaten at it if it had been there very long. We're hoping that this means that another of our girls is laying now!!
