First egg and it is speckled....

I got my very first egg today. It is very speckled....I believe it is from my RIR hen. Is it normal for the first eggs to be speckled and they outgrow it or will her eggs stay speckled?

We're newbies too but from what I've read here on BYC it's OK. Considering this is a young layer, she may still be working out all the kinks. I think it's just an extra layer of calcium put down in the making of the egg shell step. Hopefully someone else can explain this better than I.

That's pretty common here from my EE's. I was guessing it was because they're pigs when it comes to eating oyster shell. They eat it like it was cracked corn.

My RIR lays an egg with tiny white speckles, although you have to really look to see them. Nowhere near as speckled as yours!

I have one RIR that has red specks in her egg shell not white..... looks cool
