Here is one of my 16 1/2 week-old SLW pullets. I think she will be one of the first to lay as she looks a lot more red in the face and has much more developed comb and wattles than her sisters.

She is getting there. She still needs some more red around her eye.

Counting down here too.....6, 17 week old Gold Sex Links....I'm hoping they follow in my one year old hens Gretchen's shoes.....and start laying when she did last year at 17 weeks.....Best of luck to everyone..

Aargh! 6 hens from Murray McMurray: 2 amercaunas, 2 buff orpingtons, 2 NH reds. Got them on May 15th. I swore I wouldn't stress over this like I did last year but I am. When oh when will I get my first egg?! Had them a month!

I have 2 RIRs and 4 BAs. They are 25 weeks.

My 11 Buff Orpingtons were 18 weeks yesterday. Hoping to get some eggs soon!!!

Sorry to say you are in for a long wait. 6 months is average, but they will lay when their bodies are ready. They all mature at different rates. I have a barnevelder that didn't start laying until she was 11 months old. Now she's broody.

I have a bunch of SLW also. They are getting really red too but I didn't know about the eye thing. I will have to check them later tonight!
