First Egg Countdown

First egg! Pretty little light green one from my EE, 24 weeks old.

Well, I'm from the school that says if you don't give your immune system something to work on (everyday germs) it will find something else to work on, and that something else will be you - in the form of allergies and autoimmune disorders. So unless there's poop on the eggs, I don't wash them at all. If there's a lot of poop I scrape it off and feed the egg to the dogs, still unwashed.  If it makes you feel better to wash them, go right ahead. And if you've got someone in your family who has an immune illness, then it might be better to be extra careful. But, IMHO, if everyone's reasonably healthy, washing the eggs is generally not needed at all.

As far as the gunk inside your egg, that could be a couple things. Did you eat the egg?

I hear from this website that it was a meat spot. I just took it out and yes we ate the eggs in an omelette. Kind of took my appetite though. Too bad it had to be in my first cracked eggs. It kind of turned my stomach.

But in spite of this the eggs were really good.

I am still waiting patiently... or maybe not so patiently

for my ladies to start feeding me, for a change. My Silver Laced Wyandotte and Barred Rock have looked ready to go for about three weeks now, and my two EEs are now getting pretty red. A couple weeks ago, I figured the first two would be laying for weeks before the EEs, but now I am wondering if they will all start laying at the same time! So excited for all of you that have been getting your first eggs!
