First Egg Countdown

I just started raising backyard chickens and I can't wait my chicken is about 17 weeks old and should be laying anytime I think. It's exciting to check on her everymorning waiting to see if she's layed. My lil girls are anxious and keep suggesting shes "broken" lol. they're just not as patient yet.
Welcome to the thread and BYC!

I got another egg this morning! It was so sweet of Lulu (my Dominique) to provide breakfast.
She laid her first, skipped a day, laid yesterday and then laid today. The eggs have been small but perfect (just a small meat spot). Way to go Lulu!

Yay!

My 4 girls are just shy of 23 weeks- they are all showing "the signs" now. They are squatting and their combs/wattles are very red. I have a light in the coop, since there's less and less light each day, so hopefully an egg should be coming soon :D I have a Wheaten Marans, I read about other marans that their first egg didn't come till 24+ weeks, so it might be a while for her. But the EE's and OE eggs should be soon!

I haven't collected eggs in so long, my last egg was probably in late 2012

I am so PROUD of my BSL, Coal, since she laid her very first egg a week ago, she has laid everyday but one (I was expecting her to be quite a bit more sporadic than that at first). I still get excited every time I go out there and there is a new egg! Now I am waiting for my new Polish pullet to begin laying (I know it may take a bit due to new home, shorter days, and that, from what I understand, Polish don't lay a whole lot. So, waiting once again lol

P.S. Polish lay white eggs right?

The BA and the white pullet here have been laying pretty regular still even though they are new as well. I'm not sure if this NHR has laid(maybe one egg when she first got here) Do any of you know what breed the white one is?

Wow who knew they would cooperate in such a manner. That's amazing! Would love to have seen that.

My BO pullet squatted today, so hopefully it won't be long. YAY!
I know, aye? I sure wish I had a way to tape them when they do stuff like that....I would never have thought they would act like that either and just stood there kinda shocked for a bit...I've seen hens peck/attack each other ( luckily not this flock so far with the pullets bickering too much at all ) but never attack a Roo and then hold him to let a flock mate lay...I think my jaw was on the coop floor

Oh best of luck, she should be laying anytime now...yippiieee for you and your BO!!!

It was about two weeks after mine started squatting ( although they did do some squatting early fall, than stopped ??? )...but I think it was longer because of Mr Roo...should be near a week or less for you!

Someone just laid their first egg(don't know who) I got really surprised because my other hen who was the same age laid her first egg ages ago then hatched me some chicks

and I'd given up on the others laying till spring!

Congratulations!

No juevos aqui. Nada. Zip. Nothing. That they are probably still a little too young (17.5 weeks) and not red enough yet is absolutely irrelevant. Lay, you freeloaders, LAY! I want me some Christmas eggs!

So many people seeing their pullets' first eggs gives me hope that maybe I will see them before spring.
