First Egg Countdown

Someone just laid their first egg(don't know who) I got really surprised because my other hen who was the same age laid her first egg ages ago then hatched me some chicks

and I'd given up on the others laying till spring!
Congrats!

Totally spaced on this on Thanksgiving Day, but my pullet Bling finally laid! Yay! One perfect tiny brown egg.

Now get with the programme girls...this 4 a day from 11 hens is for the birds!
Nice Thanksgiving present! Congrats!

Congratulations!

No juevos aqui. Nada. Zip. Nothing. That they are probably still a little too young (17.5 weeks) and not red enough yet is absolutely irrelevant. Lay, you freeloaders, LAY! I want me some Christmas eggs!

So many people seeing their pullets' first eggs gives me hope that maybe I will see them before spring.
They are a bit too young. You will get some before spring.

My 37 week old barnevelders are still freeloaders.

Thank you for the comments, Happy Chooks. 37 weeks? AYEEEEEEEE, no! At least they are cute :) Mine are getting big, fluffy bottoms and the barred rock is turning redder every day, so I hope I will see eggs. The solstice is on the 21st, so the days will start getting longer again. I have no hope on the EE. She thinks she's a rooster. Also, she's doing another juvie molt. And she's a bit psycho. But, when not all scruffy looking, her plummage is quite pretty, all blue and gold with slate legs. And her face reminds me of an eagle.

I don't think there are any egg thoughts in there, yet.

Congratulations on all those getting their first eggs (and second eggs, and 612th eggs.) I hope to join your ranks before spring. I would LOVE to join your ranks before Christmas, but we'll see.

Yay! Got our first egg! I just checked the coop again and there it was! Not sure if it was Jenny or Mary Nell, they are both squatting now. Yesterday Mary Nell was in the coop just talking away. Today when I checked Jenny was under the coop and the rest of them were in the run so maybe it was Jenny. I bet the rest will be chipping in on the rent soon.

I have 2 that were laying pretty steadily until the weather changed. Now I get one a day. Not sure if it's the same girl each day or if they're taking turns. All I know is that there are 3 more who should be plenty old enough, but they're still free loading.

I was sure that they were laying out in the yard, so I made it next to impossible to get out of the run. Still no luck. I had to buy eggs today. Grrr!!

Yippee!!!!! It looks like a lovely egg.

Hooray -- I got my first egg the day before Thanksgiving. Our Son, daughter in law, and kids are visiting and we woke from a nap - there it was in the chicken run. Granddaughters were so excited. They are 5 and 2 1/2 . This was the first time they have seen grammy's chickens. Not sure which hen to thank. We haven't figured it out yet...... She then told off Thanksgiving day - no egg. But yesterday morning there was a nice egg in one of the nest boxes and then again today mid morning. It was so much fun to share our first eggs with out granddaughters. We scrambled them up each day and each had a bite.
Looking for help on identifying who might be the hen laying. The buff has been acting strange lately --- isolating herself from the others at times and pulls herself all in like she's cold. ( lack of a better way to describe it). That's Chloe, she's my oldes - at 30 wks. Then there's my Wynadotte - Winnie - she looks the most developed and has been squatting like you talk about on here. Lizzie my New Hampshire has always squatted from day one. Or is it Jersey Girl my Delaware. They other 5 are 27 wks old. Help in solving the mystery if you can please.

I guess it's this crazy weather we are having in SC. One day it's warm and the next it's freezing. I had expected eggs before this from the RIR Mary Nell. She was supposed to be 4 weeks old when I got them. She mothered the others who were each a week behind each other. Jenny the BO is the next oldest and I think she was the one who laid the egg. One thing I did different this week was that I started giving them a teaspoon of Apple Cider Vinegar in their water. Don't know if that helped or not. I just read that a lot of people give them ACV in their water. It will be great when they are all giving back. I guess I should add up everything and see how much this first egg cost. LOL

Those are beautiful hens, and pretty eggs too. Is it just me, or was one white and one brown...?
My guess is that two of them lay. Which breeds do you have that lay white? I suspect the Wyandotte on the brown egg. Just my guess.
Congratulations on two layers!

They were the same color. Just didn't look the same in the pictures. One was outside and second one inside. They have all three been a light brown like in the picture in then nest Box.

Here's a pic of the third egg I got today
