Glad that you posted that you are aware of Willie being a rooster.I gotta jump in on this thread. I have 15 pullets that are 20 weeks old. Mixed flock of 2 SS Hamburgs, 5 EE, 4 Brown Leghorns, 3 White leghorns, and one NH. They are all starting to get more and more color in their faces, but the below brown leghorn (left) has really taken off in comb/waddle color and size. Her sister (right) is the same age. Hoping these free loaders start earning their keep soon!!
Edited to add: That's Willie in the middle, my SLW roo. Gotta keep giving him praise for saving and protecting one of the SS hamburgs from a hawk last week!!!

Congrats! Finally got our first egg ever!!! we were out of town so we missed it, but the friends who were taking care of the girls sent me this pic! Laid by the Barred Rock at almost 30 weeks old... here's hoping the others follow real soon!
Yup. Willie started out as Winnie, but he made his gender known at a fairly young age. He continues to remind us of his nature throughout the day as well. I was upset at first that one of my few brown egg layers turned out to be a rooster. He was ugly, and awkward. He has since grown into himself and has proven to be a sound protector of his flock and respectful of our space. He's hatchery stock, nothing special about him, but he's a keeperGlad that you posted that you are aware of Willie being a rooster.I was going to have to break the news to you otherwise.![]()
Beautiful little guy and he does look proud of himself!
Pretty ladies! Especially love the tan and white one in the bottom pic!
