First Egg Countdown

Pics
I would love if the twin would give me a birthday present of eggs, but I think that would be pushing it a bit for that would be Aug. 4th and that is not that far away. They are just now starting to get red.

Oooooouuuu, birthday present? Gee maybe Pearl is waiting for my birthday - Aug. 14. A long wait, but what a wonderful treat it would be!!!

Pearl is a great looking Australorp!

I don't think you will have to wait until the middle of next month.

Good luck!

OUR FIRST EGG:weee:ya
Now to figure out who layed it. Our BR, Penelopy was in the nesting box yesterday bak bak BAAAAAALking up a storm and her friend Matilda, our RIR was making as much noise as Penelopy cheering her on. Penelopy has been squatting for me for a week or more and Matilda starting squatting a few days ago, so we figure that it could be either one of them. My other 2 chickens, both BO's are still stand-offish but otherwise are well developed in combs and wattles. All of our pulletts are 22 wks and 1 day old. we have been eagerly reading this post and looking forward to the day when I, too could say that I've gotten my first egg. To all that are still waiting, those eggs will come and they will be worth the wait. We are going to let our 3 yr old grandson eat the first egg if he wants it:love

I found a second egg today:celebrate, I'm pretty sure that they are from my BR. Yesterday she laid it in the nesting box as pretty as you please but this afternoon when I went to bring the girls some peaches that were starting to turn, Penelopy (my BR) was in the nesting box scratching around so I just put the pan of peaches in the run for my other 3 girls and when she heard the commotion she left the box in a hurry and by the rime I got to the other side of the run there was an egg just laying in the run and there hadn't been one just a minute before so I think she dropped it on her way to the peaches:gig
This is so much fun! We let our 3 yr. old grandson eat the first egg for breakfast this morning, he let me taste it and it was wonderful:yiipchick I hope the other girls start laying soon:)

I would say that it's your Barred Rock's egg since she's been squatting longer. Barred Rocks lay pretty light brown eggs, maybe her ink jets arn't warmed up yet, because that's a really light egg. Hopefully your RIR will get jealous and get off her fluffy butt and lay!

I fell in love with the more buff colored chickens so I wasn't too excited about getting a BSL but she is so beautiful I just love her coloring. I love all of my chickens, I cant wait til they start laying eggs. My roo hasn't started crowing yet but I am praying his crow is tolerable and doesn't bother my neighbors
