First Egg Countdown

Mamaj those blue eggs are gorgeous!

I got 4 eggs yesterday morning and 4 eggs this morning from my 4 girls! There are no eggs when I go out around 8 to feed breakfast, but by 10 or so we've had all 4 eggs. That's about the time we start hearing all the squawking from the coop. So awesome to lift the nest box lid and see 4 eggs in there!

Now you need more hens!

I got four eggs today! My poor little new layer was running around looking for a place to lay and ended up plopping it out on a dead fallen tree while she was picking at bugs. Lol! She just looked around like "Did I do that?". Chickens are so fun!

Hi all-- still basically a chicken newbie here. How cool to hear about everyone's eggs! I'm hoping my chickens will cooperate soon. I have 10 chickens, various breeds (RIR, BR, WR, BO, SS, EE) and they are all 22 weeks. I am getting impatient. They seem to have absolutely no idea that they are supposed to be producing eggs. They just fool around all day, and hound me for treats. Oh, well.

That's what I said too, "Oh, well". They'll do it when they are ready! My SS Hamburgs were between 26-27 weeks when I got my first egg, I got four today, so most of them are still working on getting ready for it. When you finally see that little miracle that is an egg, it gives you so much more respect for them when you raise them from babies and watch them grow and develop. It's really awesome!

It's really fun, too, to see one egg one day and then a few days later you see two, and then three, and so on. Very cool!

Chicksurreal, I think it may be safe to say that my little Lucky girl (SS Hamburg like yours) is FINALLY laying!! Now if her sister, Dotty, would show some interest and color, we may max out on our total eggs one of these days! I know you have all the same breed, but do your eggs look slightly cream colored?

Oh, wow! Congratulations! I'm so glad Lucky is able to lay, she was attacked by a hawk and survived it, is that right?

And, yes, our eggs are not white, they are more of a cream color. I try to get good pictures of the color, but they always look white in the pics and that isn't accurate. Glad to know I wasn't imagining it! Lol! Actually, I put one next to a store bought white egg and you can totally see the difference.

Lol! I know that feeling! My girls are 25 weeks today and only 4 maybe 5 out of 14 have started laying! Just wait, the first one will knock your socks off! ;)
