I agree! Heidi just squatted for the first time 2 days ago and all of asudden she following me everywhere and greeting me at the door of the run. And she doesn't run from me in fear any more! It's an amazing transition that literally happened overnight!

Today Heidi also kicked around the shavings in the nest box and moved the golf ball around! Exciting stuff happening over here!

My Red Star does not do an egg song after she lays. She just stands there probably wondering what she has just done or "Ouch" or something to that degree - but throughout the day she could be one ANNOYING thing that I'd like to turn into chicken soup, she's so darn LOUD!! Sounds like a crow crowing but more drawn out.

I just counted the weeks out and my Barnevelder girls (and a couple wellies too) are now 22 weeks old. So darn close! I can't wait to see those beautiful barnie eggs!

I heard the egg song today! Loud and clear, sounded exactly like the You Tube videos (and thank you everyone who suggested that for those of us who had no idea what to listen for!) I walked around the shed to see who was singing and they all looked up silently and then mobbed me looking for treats. So, I don't know who it was and there were no eggs anywhere so I think it was only practice.

I had to go to Youtube to figure out what the egg song was - but once my own hens did it, I recognized it right away. I also couldn't figure out what "squatting" looked like until one of mine did it - and then it was crystal clear. LOL!

Thanks again everyone, I am really enjoying the mint color too! She's taking the "easter' thing very seriously and religiously laying in pastel.

And I'll cross my fingers for you Happy Chooks! I think you said that your birds normally lay around 24 weeks, so you are pretty close! I don't know how you do it. I barely survived my one bird waiting until 22 weeks.

And no worries Debid, they'll do that to you for about a week before they actually lay. I think it's a bid for treats too!

Got my first brown egg today. Of course, as with my green egg a couple weeks ago, I wasn't in town. My daughter texted me a photo of it. 5 down, 2 to go.
