First Egg Countdown

#1 looks like a Cornish to me. I've got three plus two EE.

Two of the Cornish just started laying on 12/3/12, which puts them a couple weeks shy of 6 months old. I knew they were about ripe since all of them have started squatting when you walk up to them within the past week.

The EE are five months old and are relative new additions and haven't started laying yet.

This is "Brownie," who bears a striking resemblance to one of the birds mentioned. Her red features have darkened a bit in the past couple days, so I suspect it will be any day for her too.

Here is the inaugural egg next to two store-bought eggs.

Pretty girl FenikT! I like Cornish crossed with various breeds, they always look like raptors somehow.

And Off-Grid-Hens, I'm hatching Blue, Splash, and Cuckoo marans. The first one is out as of last night, but no further pips Poor baby spent all night peeping out of lonliness.

Behold Rincewind, the great Wizzard!:

Here is another angle:

I have GLW and she looks like she has some in her as well. Very pretty girl!

It looks like one of my other girls started laying today! My husband found the egg on the right in a corner of the coop. It's a very pretty blue in person. It must have come from either my black ameraucana or one of my other EE's. It's dirty :( Hopefully I can get her laying in the nest box soon!!!

My oldest EE started laying last week, her egg is on the left...with a large white store bought egg in the middle.

Eeeee, my Marans are hatching!  First pip this afternoon!:weee

I love the green egg! Very pretty!

Happy Chooks, I have a pretty Wellsumer (hatched4/1) but she still isn't laying. We have short days now and I have given up expecting an egg before spring.

Not sure what happened here but congrats Pele on the hatching babies!!!!
Can't wait to see pics!

Thank you! Lol I was wondering why you were quoting me about Marans, then saying green eggs are awesome. I was like "If these birds give me green eggs, I have a thing or two to say to the seller!"

I feel your pain. My barnevelder that hatched 3/21 STILL isn't laying either. Arrrrrgghh! And I'm anxiously awaiting eggs from a welsummer pullet that hatched 5/30.

Congrats on the babies Pele. First one looks blue! (I love, love, love blue chickens!)

Thanks Happy Chooks! I do have Blue Coppers in my hatch, and I am excited about them. They still haven't hatched yet though, despite spending all night peeping at each other in their shells. Kept me awake too, ack.

:O Happy Chooks! Your Barnevelder still isn't laying! Oh dear. I will be sending egg vibes your way.

Her egg color had better be worth the wait.

Last year when the welsummer took 11 months to lay, she laid for a couple months, then went broody. I'm starting to wonder if this barnevelder will do the same.
