Congrats Happy Chooks and rlhagan!

Happy Chooks, that egg looks like the same color as what my EE Iti lays. Light pastel minty green. Very spring.

I have a few hens starting to get color back in their faces, while others combs, faces, and wattles are still bleached out and dry. Will the girls who are red in the face (and being mated by the rooster) start laying soon, or will I still have to wait through the winter? Sorry for the newbie question, but This is my first winter after a molt, second winter in total with the chickens.

They will lay before spring, but production won't be high until spring. (unless you have lighting in your coop) I have several that molted that are red in the face again. 1 has started laying again - she is laying every 2-3 days.

OK, I hope you are all not sick of my insanity but it's official I have two good layers two slackers and one who is puzzling me. My Wyandotte has been slacking so I think for a while now. she has the reddest comb sings the egg song and has been squatting for a while. Today I went out to check for eggs and noticed she was laying in the nest so I went back in. she laid in the nest for like 45 mins sang an egg song immediately after I went to the nest annnnnnnd nothing! Is she practicing? is this normal behavior? or should I be worried?

Ok, well I found her egg. Not sure if she laid it in the box but I found it in the coop area on the ground in the deep litter. So she's not a slack...just sneaky. Hmmmm now what to do about this problem. Looks like I am going to have to crawl in and comb through bedding every day until spring...Any suggestions on how to get her to lay in the nesting area?

Was it in a divot in the corner? Or just lying in the middle of the floor? If she didn't make a floor-nest for it, then I'd presume she simply hasn't gotten the timing down just yet and it was an accident that it ended up on the floor. And in that case, she ought to have it down soon with no intervention.
