Yeah, we're geeky round these parts...we also have Lord of the Rings girls and the Doctor's companions. :)

I caught Saffron (the EE) going in there by herself on her own to check the nest boxes out... I caught Nandi (the SLW) sticking her head in the nest boxes while my EEs were all lying on their backs in a funny little EE pile being ridiculous and rolling around in the bedding on the coop floor... So she may have only looked in there because she was already in there... but Saffron... Saffron was DEFINITELY scouting.

Oh, now it's getting serious... I just observed Saffron stepping in and out of the nest boxes repeatedly, inspecting the bedding, moving that golf ball around... and paying VERY close attention to what my Leghorn was going in there and doing...

No repeat behavior out of Nandi.

WOW... HC,, thats such a neat looking egg! Do Barnevelders' always lay speckled eggs? That is wonderful, and I praise your patience. I could barely stand the 23 weeks it took me to get my first egg!

Congratualtions!

Wow I didn't expect so many people to have hens they are waiting on! It's good to have company

.

Update: Drusilla grew a big ol red comb overnight! She now looks like a mature Gold Comet hen!

. She is probably sick, however, of me following her around the yard and commanding her "squat! Squat you freeloader!"

I swear it's the chickens that turned me crazy, I wasn't this way to start with!

LOL Pele you funny. I'm waiting for my 1 RIR about 14-16 weeks old to start laying. I throw out crushed egg shells to the yard and have seen my pullet eating them so hoping she's getting ready to lay soon! I've seen her and the Easter Egger rooster squatting behind a bush of lemongrass. Can't wait for first egg!
