First Egg Countdown

Sooooo jealous of that gorgeous chocolate egg! My attempt to hatch Marans was a complete failure, and only one (male) chick survived. No chocolate eggs for me :(.

I have an assortment of 23-week old pullets. Easter eggers, barred rock, black Austrolorp. I added them to my small flock of 3 (a BCM, Rhode Island Red, and a Chantecler) around Thanksgiving. The Chantecler went broody last summer so I picked up an assortment of hatching eggs from a local lady. She hatched 7 out of 12 and she and the chicks stayed in a grow out pen until Thanksgiving. All are healthy and happy and eating well but the 3 older hens went on strike when the new ones were brought in so I haven't had a fresh egg in months. They are in an enclosed run unless supervised so I know they aren't hiding eggs.

I miss my fresh eggs!!!

I got my hen from the feed store around late September as a baby chick. She's getting closer to laying now. Waiting for my first egg! She has very small wattle right now, pale pink face and comb. Every day I look at her, she seems to change each morning.

I got my first egg on New years day from my pullets born August 28. They are Red Stars. Went out today and I had a dozen little eggs in my roll out nest. I was surprised that some of them had started laying at a little over 4 months old.
